Student Choice Clay
Project
You will need clay, clay tools, and clay
rubric. Project will be graded on rubric criteria. PROJECT MUST
BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE.
Exploding an Object
You will need pencil, 9x12 paper, 18x24 paper, carbon
paper, colored pencils, 2 sheets of 12x18 colored construction paper for
framing.
- Draw
a simple object on 9x12 paper and all lines must have width.
Example letters must be bubble letters.
- Divide
9x12 picture into 15-20 pieces with straight lines no curvy lines.
- Number
pieces in order then cut apart.
- Arrange
piece back into picture in the middle of 18x24 piece of paper.
- Spread
pieces apart covering entire paper.
- Trace
outside of pieces.
- Use
carbon paper and trace inside of pieces.
- Choose
a vanishing point located in one of your pieces.
- Vanish
all corners and lines touching edges of pieces to the VP using a ruler.
When you run into a drawn line stop vanishing.
- Apply
color to faces of pieces with colored pencils in a dark value.
- Apply
color to vanishing lines using the concept that objects become darker the
farther away they are. The VP is the greatest distance away.
- Cut
out in one large piece and glue to 2 12x18 colored sheets of paper.
I recommend that you ask questions if you are not sure
about the step. After beginning
step 9 check with me and make sure you are completing correctly.
Pop Art Unit

scratch paper, comics from newspaper, ruler, acrylic paint, paintbrushes,
reading packet and worksheet.

reading and worksheet in complete sentences.

a frame from the comics. The
frame may not be from the worm cartoon or BC.
I recommend Nancy, Peanuts, Garfield, and Blondie etc.

frame out exactly on the black line.
- Tape
frame on the very edges in the middle of a scrap paper.
- Use
a ruler and divide the frame into ¼” squares.
- Count
squares across and down.
- Calculate
the ratio to 18x24 paper. Example
7x8 would equal 2” squares on 18x24; 6x4 would equal 4” squares on 18x24
paper.
- Graph
18x24 lightly (you will erase).
- Cut
off extra boxes.
- Draw
cartoon box by box.
- Erase
graph.
